Become a Mentor with In Her Corner

Our mentorship program supports girls ages 8–18 through one-on-one relationships over a six-month term. Mentors provide consistent guidance through structured sessions and ongoing connection.

The program is designed to support reflection, communication, and personal growth during key stages of development.

Mentorship through In Her Corner is supportive and educational in nature. It does not include therapy, counseling, diagnosis, or clinical mental health services.

Mentorship in 3 Steps

Apply & Complete Screening

Prospective mentors submit an application and complete a required background check. A one-time onboarding fee supports screening, training, and administrative costs.

Onboarding & Acceptance Review

Once a background check is cleared, accepted mentors are given access to onboarding materials. Applications then move into final review based on alignment, availability, and program needs.

Placement & Mentorship Term

Accepted mentors may be matched with a mentee when placement opportunities are available. Mentors commit to a six-month mentorship term. Program structure and support are provided throughout the experience.

Age Guidelines

  • Mentors ages 19+ support girls ages 8–14

  • Mentors ages 22+ support girls ages 15–18

Time Commitment

  • Six-month mentorship term

  • Two virtual sessions per month

  • Sessions last 25–30 minutes

  • One mentee-related activity per month, when available

Activities may include games, recitals, showcases, performances, or competitions.

The Mentor Role

Mentors:

  • Provide steady guidance and encouragement

  • Support reflection, communication, and skill development

  • Build trust through consistent, age-appropriate conversation

  • Make an effort to attend meaningful moments beyond scheduled sessions, when available

  • Complete a brief Parent Preview after each session

Training & Support

Mentors receive structured onboarding and training. Session guidance and communication expectations are provided. Ongoing access to program leadership is available. Tools are provided to support parent communication.

Mentors also have access to optional monthly virtual workshops led by trusted community experts.

This is a volunteer mentorship role. Mentors are not compensated.

Application Fee & Background Check

A one-time onboarding fee supports background checks, training, and administrative support.

  • Standard fee: $50 (non-refundable)

  • College student fee: $35 (non-refundable)

College applicants may email a photo of their student ID to a.daves@inhercornerfoundation.org to receive a student discount code.

After submitting an application and fee, mentors receive a confirmation email with a link to complete the required background check. Access to onboarding materials is granted only after the background check is cleared.

Background checks must be renewed every two years. Mentors may not work with mentees without a cleared background check on file.

Program Expectations

Mentors are expected to commit to the full six-month term. Clear communication with families and program leadership is required. Program structure, safety guidelines, and boundaries must be followed. Reliability, preparation, and presence are essential.

Prior mentoring experience is not required. All mentors are held to program standards. Placement is based on alignment, availability, and program needs.
